PLATE GEMS

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 16 July 2026

This page is maintained by the operator of Plate Gems to explain how the site handles data. It is app-owned content, not an independent certification.

What we collect

  • Plate sightings: the plate number, timestamp, and any optional location or notes you add.
  • Google account info: used only for sign-in. Your Google display name and email are stored by the auth provider but are not shown on the site — only the public username you choose is visible to other users.
  • Photos: images uploaded by the site administrator or users granted photo-upload permission, along with any GPS coordinates embedded in the photo's EXIF data.
  • Community tags / notes: user-added tags or notes on plates (e.g. "G-Wagon", plate color), attributed to your username.

Why we collect it

To operate the core plate-logging, tallying, and sharing feature of the site — a hobby community for spotting license plates.

Legal basis

Legitimate interest in operating a small, hobby plate-spotting community platform, and — for account creation — consent given when you sign in with Google.

Sharing model — everything is public

All sighting data (plate number, tally, location, notes, photos, tags) is public and visible to every visitor of the site — including people who are not signed in. This is central to how the app works; there is no private/friends-only mode. Do not log a sighting you are not comfortable with being publicly visible.

Retention

Sightings, photos, and tags are kept indefinitely unless you request deletion, or unless the site is discontinued. Your account and all sightings you created can be deleted from the Account page.

Third parties

  • Google — authentication (Sign in with Google).
  • Lovable Cloud — hosting, database, and storage.

Depending on these providers' infrastructure, data may be processed outside the European Union.

Cookies

The site uses essential cookies only, for keeping you signed in via Google authentication. There are no advertising, analytics, or tracking cookies.

Your rights

  • Access & correction: view and edit your own sightings from the app; request a copy or correction by email.
  • Deletion (account holders): delete your account and all associated sightings from the Account page.
  • Removal request (non-users): if a plate you consider personally identifying has been logged and you want it removed, email us at the address below with the plate number and any context — we will remove matching sightings within a reasonable time.

GDPR

Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and comparable laws, you have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of personal data concerning you. Plate Gems is operated as a small, non-commercial hobby project. If a plate or sighting concerns you and you'd like it removed — whether or not you have an account — please use the removal request form below and we will review it personally.
